What happens to an electric gate in a power cut?

The motor has a manual release. You unlock it with a key, the motor lets go of the gate, and you push it open by hand. Once the power is back you lock it again and it drives as normal. I show you where the release is and how it works before I leave.

Can I open my electric gate from my phone?

Yes. The Hikvision intercom links to the Hik-Connect app on your phone. When someone presses the button at the gate your phone rings, you see them on camera, you can talk to them, and you can open the gate from wherever you are. I set the app up on the day.

Do you do swing gates as well as sliding?

The gate on this page is a sliding one: it runs along a track to one side of the opening, which suits a drive that slopes up from the road. If you have a swing gate in mind, ring me and ask, and send a photo of the opening.

Will I see any cables from the gate to the house?

No. The power and the intercom cable run in a duct under the drive or the border, up inside the pillar to the motor and the intercom, and into the house through the wall. The monitor cable inside goes in the wall, the same as my camera cables. From the road you see a gate, a button and a small intercom panel.

The motor sits at the foot of the gate, on the inside, and drives it along the track. A button inside the drive opens it on the way out. The intercom panel on the pillar is what a visitor presses.

Someone presses the button at the gate and the monitor rings. You see them on screen, you talk to them, and one press opens the gate. It also rings your phone through the Hik-Connect app, so a delivery gets in whether you are upstairs or in Halifax.

A sliding gate on a track. The drive decides, not the brochure.

Sliding

One gate, running sideways along a track on a toothed rack. It needs a level run and a space to one side as wide as the opening. It suits a drive that slopes up from the road, or a short drive with no room for a gate to open inwards. The motor sits at one end, low down, inside the boundary.

Swing

How a gate job goes

You ring, or send a photo.
A picture of the gate and the posts from the road tells me most of what I need. Ring 07540 049136 or start the quote and I will come back to you.
I come and measure.
Width of the opening, the slope of the drive, where the power is and where the cable can run. I tell you what I would do, stood at the gate.
I fit the motor, the intercom and the cabling.
Ducting under the drive, the motor at the gate, the intercom on the pillar, the monitor by your door. No cable on show anywhere.
I set your phone up and hand over.
Hik-Connect on your phone, the exit button inside the drive, and the manual release for a power cut. You try all of it while I am there.

A Hikvision camera on the pillar, so the whole approach is recorded, day and night. Power out to the gate, which is the supporting electrical work I do alongside a security job. And often an alarm on the house: the gate slows people down at the boundary, the alarm covers the building and rings your phone.
