There’s no control room. There’s you, your phone and a very loud siren.
That’s worth saying plainly, because a lot of people think a burglar alarm rings the police. Mine don’t. A sensor trips, the siren outside goes off, and your phone buzzes with which sensor and when. You look at your cameras if you’ve got them, and you decide what to do.
For most houses and shops that’s the right setup. A siren going off on the wall is a good reason to leave. The phone alert means you know about it in the car, at work or on holiday, and you can set and unset the alarm from wherever you are.
Alarms that ring the police need a registered monitoring contract and a different kind of installer. If that’s what you need, I’ll say so on the phone.

Texecom and Ajax. Both give you a siren on the wall and an alert on your phone. Which one suits you depends on the building, and I tell you on the visit.
Ajax
A hub by the router, detectors on the walls, siren outside. Everything runs off the Ajax app, and it tells you when a sensor wants attention.

A shop is harder than a house. It can’t shut for me, so the work gets done round the customers and tidied as I go. The siren went up on the ladder in the photo at the top. Where anything sits inside stays between me and the owner.
When it trips, the siren goes off and the owner gets an alert on his phone. That’s the whole system, and it’s the same one I’d fit in a house.

Better with cameras
An alarm tells you something moved. A camera shows you what. Put the alarm in next to Hikvision cameras and when the alert lands you open the other app and see who’s on the drive. If the cameras are going in at the same time, it’s one visit, one set of holes and one cable run for both.

Alarm questions I get asked
- Wired or wireless burglar alarm, which is better?
- Neither is better, they suit different buildings. Wired means the sensors cable back to the panel and there are no batteries to think about. Wireless means no cable to run through a finished house. I fit Texecom and Ajax, and which system and which type suits you depends on the building. I tell you on the visit.
- Will the alarm call the police?
- No. The systems I fit alert your phone, not the police or a call centre. When a sensor trips the siren goes off outside and you get a notification straight away. You look, and if something is wrong you ring 999 yourself. Alarms that go to the police need a registered monitoring contract, and that is not what I sell.
- Can I add the alarm to my CCTV app?
- They are separate apps: Hik-Connect for the cameras, and Texecom or Ajax for the alarm. They sit next to each other on your phone. When the alarm alert comes in you open the camera app and look at what set it off, which is the point of having both. Whether the two can be linked depends on the kit, and I tell you on the visit.
- What happens to the alarm in a power cut?
- It stays on. A Texecom panel has a backup battery inside it and an Ajax hub has one built in, so the siren and sensors keep working when the mains goes off. Alerts to your phone need your internet or a SIM in the system, so if the router is off with the power the phone side waits until it is back.
- Do you fit alarms in shops and businesses?
- Yes. Shops, units and offices round Bradford, Shipley and Halifax. Detectors over the shop floor and the stockroom, a siren on the outside wall, and the alert to whoever needs it on their phone.
