What went in, and why.
A new drive, a new stone wall and a timber sliding gate. My part was making it move and letting the owners see who’s at it. The motor is a Nice unit at the base of the gate. The intercom is Hikvision, with a monitor inside the house so a face comes up on screen before anyone presses open.
The exit button sits in the pillar on the drive side, sealed so the weather stays out of it. The cable to the monitor went in through a brand-new wall, one hole, filled and painted over. The owners were watching. I didn’t rush it.

Questions I get asked
- Do you fit electric gate motors?
- Yes. Nice motors, with a Hikvision intercom and a monitor indoors if you want to see who is there before you open up.
- Can I see who is at the gate before I open it?
- Yes. The Hikvision intercom has a camera in it. A monitor inside the house shows the caller, and you open the gate from the screen.
- How does someone get out when the gate is closed?
- An exit button on the drive side of the pillar. Press it and the gate opens. It is set into the stone and sealed against the weather.
